Cintas Awards Lifesaving Defibrillators to Waynesville, OH Police Department

Village Police Among Country's Best Prepared to Respond to Cardiac Emergencies

WAYNESVILLE, OH, January 17, 2005 – The Waynesville, Ohio Police Department recently received lifesaving AED (Automated External Defibrillator) technology as part of the Cintas Reviver Provider AED Police Grant Program. AEDs are sophisticated computer-driven medical devices that deliver an electric shock through the chest wall to the heart. The processors in the device are programmed to judge whether defibrillation is needed and prompt the aid-giver when to administer a lifesaving shock.

Waynesville Mayor Ernie Lawson, Village Manager Rod Smith and Police Chief Ken McCloud accepted the lifesaving gift at a special ceremony held January 12th at Waynesville's city hall. The donation was part of a national program designed by Cintas Corporation to get lifesaving AED technology into the hands of trained officers, often the first to respond to cardiac emergencies.

Mayor Lawson spoke to an audience of guests and village officials at the ceremony about the importance of having AED technology readily available. "Waynesville and the surround areas are developing quickly - and that significantly increases our mutual aid responsibilities," said Lawson. I'd like to thank Cintas for helping our world-class police force maintain the highest levels of situational preparedness."

The Waynesville Police Department was the fourth department selected to receive the grant from a pool of over 2,000 applications nationwide. "All of the applicants demonstrated need, and they were all very deserving," said Mike Wallner, Cintas Reviver Provider AED Grant Program Manager. "The Waynesville PD serves a fast growing community and has extensive mutual aid responsibilities - which can lengthen medical response times in the event of a cardiac emergency. Having AEDs readily available will help save lives when seconds count. We congratulate and thank the Waynesville PD for their service to the community and the hundreds of thousands of tourists that visit the area each year."

The Cintas ReviveR Provider Grant Program works on two levels. Police departments across the country are eligible to apply for the grant online at the program's web site -

Four times a year, a department will be selected to receive four ReviveR AEDs along with associated AED training from the American Heart Association. Through a civic underwriting program, qualifying non-profit and civic organizations interested in purchasing AEDs to present to local police departments can apply for special financing support. Information and applications for the program are available online at

According to the American Heart Association, more than 250,000 people a year die from sudden cardiac arrest. The Reviver Provider AED Police Grant Program helps Cintas and civic groups support law enforcement in their efforts to rapidly respond to cardiac emergencies."
