The Cintas Lockdown™ Data Destruction Program
Beginning April 8, 2014, Microsoft will no longer provide support for Windows XP. As a result, many businesses are beginning to discard old hard drives and computers. However, it is important to use proper disposal and destruction techniques to ensure that confidential data on old hard drives is inaccessible and protected from identity thieves.
Typical hard drive destruction methods come with many risks because they are time consuming, prone to human error, and in many cases, not compliant with disposal laws. Additionally, compliance with data confidentiality rules carries risk of serious financial penalties. For example, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) allows fines of up to $250,000 and 10 years in prison for each violation of patient health information privacy rules.
Many discarded hard drives contain information that is confidential and easily recoverable even with professional data wiping programs. Complete physical destruction is the best way to protect this sensitive business data. Cintas offers a service that safely and efficiently destroys computer hard drives through a compliant recycling process, eliminating risks of data breaches and helping organizations stay compliant with state and federal disposal laws.
The Cintas Lockdown™ Data Destruction program offers the only national hard drive destruction solution with two background-checked representatives with an onsite truck that actually destroys the hard drives. The two background-checked, secure service representatives collect the hard drives and scan and log each serial number at the time of service. They then physically destroy the hard drives on-site in a secure Cintas truck using state-of-the-art shredders. All destroyed hard drives are collected in locked transportation bins and a manifest of each destroyed hard drive is created, along with a Certificate of Destruction for proof of service. For added peace of mind, customers can view all hard drives to ensure they are destroyed before the truck leaves the parking lot.
