Cintas Corporation Receives Illinois Governor's Pollution Prevention Award
CINCINNATI, OH, November 9, 2005– Cintas Corporation's (Nasdaq: CTAS) Romeoville, IL facility recently received Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich's Pollution Prevention Award for significant achievements in protecting the environment and boosting the economy.
Since 2003, Cintas has made substantial investments in upgrading its wastewater treatment systems at its Romeoville industrial laundry. As a result, the company reduced its freshwater usage by more than 60 percent, or more than one million gallons per month. Cintas' water treatment systems allow the company to reuse wash water while keeping cleaning quality equal to that of standard freshwater formulas.
"The pollution prevention programs and activities that Cintas has undertaken reflect their strong commitment to the wellbeing of their clients, employees and neighbors," said Governor Blagojevich. "Cintas' accomplishments benefit all citizens of the state and serve as an example for others to follow."
Now in its 19 th year, the Governor's Pollution Prevention Program recognizes companies that, collectively, prevent hundreds of tons of waste materials from being released into the environment and save millions of gallons of wastewater from being sent to treatment facilities.
"The Governor's recognition reflects our commitment to the environment and the level of excellence we strive to attain at all of our facilities across North America ," said Scott Farmer, Cintas President and CEO. "We thank Governor Blagojevich and his administration for their leadership on environmental issues that, in turn, promote a stronger economy."
Recipients of the award were judged according to the following criteria: Technological innovation, environmental significance, economic benefits and commitment to pollution prevention. The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency determined the companies' environmental compliance.
In addition to the Illinois Governor's Pollution Prevention Award, numerous agencies have recognized Cintas for environmental stewardship, including:
