An arc flash occurs when powerful, high-amperage currents travel, or arc, through the air causing a dangerous release of energy that can reach up to 35,000°F. When it comes to electrical accidents, the numbers speak for themselves:
- Over 30,000 arc flash incidents occur every year
- Up to 80% of all electrical injuries are burns resulting from an arc flash
- More than 7,000 burn injuries result from arc flash explosions annually. Some are severe and life-threatening, requiring skin grafts or amputations.
The human impact is staggering. Beyond the physical harm, the trauma of these incidents can haunt workers for years.
